Advancing policy that benefits all

Notwithstanding significant support from the private sector and philanthropy, government at all levels remains the single greatest financial contributor to the health of at-risk populations, including children, seniors, and the poor. Through strategic initiatives in the area of health policy, the Foundation seeks to support projects that maximize the effectiveness of government in meeting its safety-net obligations and the obligations of the Affordable Care Act.

Health Policy Institute of Ohio

The Health Policy Institute of Ohio (HPIO) provides independent and nonpartisan analysis needed to create evidence-informed state health policy that improves the health of all Ohioans. HPIO identifies policy options, monitors and forecasts health trends, analyzes key health issues, and communicates current research findings to Ohio policymakers.

Legal Aid Society of Cleveland

Legal Aid’s Healthy Housing Project supports healthy and stable housing for low-income renters who face legal barriers throughout Cleveland and Cuyahoga County. Funding from Mt. Sinai assisted Legal Aid in representing clients, engaging in community education and outreach, and expanding its advocacy efforts for more just policies related to healthy housing.  Mt. Sinai has also funded medical-legal partnerships supported by Legal Aid.

Lead Safe Cleveland

Founded in 2014 to better connect Cleveland’s Jewish community with mental health services, Naaleh Cleveland credits the Mt. Sinai Health Foundation as a key supporter of the organization and its mission. Mt. Sinai allowed Naaleh to establish a local, culturally-sensitive clinic that accepts third-party insurance and Medicaid, a model that creates long-term sustainability.
