Dr. Rothstein is the Vice President of Strategy at the Mt. Sinai Health Foundation. In his role, he directs all aspects of the Foundation’s strategic and responsive grantmaking activities, as well as develops initiatives that result in broad scale community health improvement in Mt. Sinai’s areas of focus: Health of the Jewish Community; Equitable Health Outcomes; Academic Medicine and Bioscience; and Health Policy. A significant
portion of Mt. Sinai’s $180 million corpus is donor-designated for medical education and medical research. In addition to his overall supervisory responsibilities, Dr. Rothstein provides leadership in this critical area of Mt. Sinai’s grantmaking activity.
Dr. Rothstein is also a Pediatric Neurosurgeon and continues to practice on a part-time basis at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital. He remains dedicated to his patients and committed to the education of the trainees and students with whom he has the privilege to work with. He holds an appointment as a faculty member at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Dr. Rothstein serves as an independent consultant for the NFL’s Concussion Program and remains
committed to improving safety in youth contact sports. Prior to taking his role at Mt. Sinai, he serve as the Chief Medical Officer of UH Ventures – the innovation, commercialization and investment platform for University Hospitals Health System.
Dr. Rothstein attended the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL where he received a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a focus in marketing and worked in the sports marketing and marketing consulting industry before attending Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and earning his MD degree. He also obtained a Master of Science in Applied Anatomy while attending medical school. Dr. Rothstein
completed his Neurosurgery Residency at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and a Fellowship in Pediatric Neurosurgery at the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.
Dr. Rothstein is a 2022 alumnus of the Wexner Foundation’s Wexner Heritage Program, a national initiative that educates up-and-coming Jewish leaders in the history, thought, texts and contemporary leadership challenges of the Jewish People. He is also on the board of JFC Security, LLC and active with Hawken School’s Mastery School to develop
pipelines for underrepresented minorities in the fields of medicine and technology.
Outside of work, Dr. Rothstein enjoys spending time with his wife, three children, and two dogs. He loves skiing, Cleveland Sports, being outside, and is an automotive enthusiast.
